I don’t know about you but when I think of Fall and Winter I am always drawn to green colors. There’s something about green shades that gets me excited for the season!
10 years into Lily Field Furniture Co. and I still get heart palpitations when I see a gorgeous piece like this dresser! In my area it is getting harder and harder to find good quality pieces and so I jumped on this one.
It was the perfect candidate for a gorgeous olive green makeover.
How to paint the perfect green dresser
Originally, I had high hopes of being able to refinish the dresser and keep the gorgeous wood as is- look at that grain pattern! Unfortunately there was no way as it was pretty damaged and neglected for many years. If you look closely you can also see that some of the wood trim is missing from the top left drawer and also the third drawer down on the left side. I searched and searched for matching trim and came up empty handed. Stay tuned to the blog soon and I’ll show you a super easy tutorial to make your own trim!

To prepare the dresser I did some heavy duty cleaning. If you watch my Instagram stories you got a sneak peek at this one when I was cleaning it. I used a warm water and TSP solution and you wouldn’t believe how much dirt and grime came off. Gross! Once the dresser was completely dry I used my favorite Country Chic Paint Clear Primer.
I love this product- especially when I know I will be distressing a piece. Typical primers are colored (white, grey etc) so when distressing you see that color. This clear primer totally eliminates that problem.
After the primer was dry I painted a full layer of Woodland. It is the most gorgeous, classy warm green!
After allowing dry time I went over the entire dresser with a sanding block focusing especially on the details. The dark wood grain showing through lends to the aged, well loved look I was going for. To seal the dresser for added protection I used 3 layers of Country Chic Paint Clear Coat.
